Up-Cell

Founded by KIT graduates in Rheinstetten, Up-Cell builds stationary energy storage systems from second-life lithium-ion cells, mainly sourced from e-bike batteries. Its Up-Storage product line covers 50 to 1,000 kWh, for indoor or outdoor installation, and won the German Sustainability Award for Products 2026. The company emphasizes a modular design, constant online monitoring, a multi-stage fire protection system, and a maintenance service that replaces defective cells. Each kilowatt-hour of storage avoids about 150 kg of CO₂ and 300 liters of water compared to using new cells.
