MiRO

In Karlsruhe, the Mineraloelraffinerie Oberrhein (MiRO) operates Germany's largest refinery. Around 1,100 employees process 15 million tonnes of crude oil annually into gasoline, diesel, heating oil, bitumen, and feedstocks for the chemical industry. Every third liter of gasoline and every eighth liter of diesel at German pumps come from MiRO. The refinery also supplies district heating to 40,000 households in Karlsruhe, covering 60% of the city's demand. Crude arrives via pipeline from Trieste, Italy, and the plant can handle 250 different crude types from five continents.
